Okay, I’ll make this my last Star Wars joke for awhile. Every now and again I just have a bunch to let out.
In Star Wars, you don’t hear much about the regular business people. I guess because regular ol’ work is something that’s kind of boring, since we all do some variation of it ourselves each day. But still, even the Death Star had roofers, right?
Years ago there was a massive online video game called “Star Wars Galaxies”. It was initially pretty popular, and part of the appeal was that you could just be a business owner and provide things for others to buy in the game– no need to be an action hero getting shot full of holes if you didn’t want to. Someone got a visit from the “good idea fairy” and decided that people just wanted to fight, so I guess a lot of the business options got taken out. The game declined in popularity rapidly and eventually the powers-that-be pulled the plug. I myself never played the game, although it sounded interesting.
But what was interesting to me was hearing about how many people just wanted to portray normal lives building things and providing for others for a decent profit, and get by mostly peacefully… the option to only fight wasn’t popular or sustainable. An interesting insight into human society, and not always what was expected.
