I’ve been to a bunch of different schools and academies in my time with the Army, and a lot of them just sort of fire-hose information into you due to the short period of time they have. Of course every academy also tries to top us off with all the latest and greatest in Army doctrine and rules of conduct and any changes to leadership philosophies and such that have taken place since your last school.
Basically every Drill Weekend, every Annual Training, and every leadership academy can’t pass up an opportunity to give you the latest and greatest in everything that the Army finds important. Purpose-designed schools to learn specific tasks, or to train people on new jobs (“M.O.S Qualification Schools”) are usually tightly-focused enough to evade this, but even they get a briefing or two.
And, yeah, it sometimes feels like that brainwashing scene in “Clockwork Orange”.
