Step out of the job market for even a little bit, and you find yourself bypassed by “all the latest”.
Joe came back from Iraq feeling worn out and took some time on unemployment before going back to finish his degree at Boise State University. Once in BSU, his G.I. Bill kicked in and he got by with that fairly well. But now he has to go out and get another job “for real” and he finds himself behind the curve a bit.
These days, technology moves so fast that skills that were cutting-edge at one time are obsolete a year later. This happens to people that get deployed, it seems– people come back from a year-long deployment and find that things in their old jobs have changed to the point where they need to be retrained and they are now behind the curve… or worse, they come back to find that their old positions no longer even exist.
