…Fort Hunter-Liggett is a huge training base for Reserve and National Guard forces, and the 91st Training Division really is stationed there. The handful of decent buildings and facilities at the post are associated with the 91st; there are other run-down and crappy buildings that aren’t affiliated with them but they’re not important. The 91st HQ building has classrooms and other facilities, but upstairs are the “nice” latrines. It’s not a coincidence that upstairs is also where the high-up officers and other staff have their offices.
So I needed to “go”, and downstairs was a zoo of troops. I went upstairs seeking a bit of solitude and hoping that somewhere there would also be a bathroom with enough toilet paper to adequately see to business. I found a very nice, clean, well-supplied latrine and didn’t question my good fortune, I just used it. Then, coming down the stairs, there he was– the 1-star General in charge of the 91st Division. I was a bit surprised (not meeting Generals every day) but he seemed friendly and waved me past with a congenial “good morning!” :ater that day he seemed kind of grumpy, though, I couldn’t help but wonder if I had spoiled his “throne” experience for the day.
