GI Low isn’t the only one coming home… so is Juni!
Juni finished her training course to transfer over and become an Intelligence Sergeant– something that was hinted at a couple years ago. Juni had been contemplating whether or not to re-enlist when the 213th got orders for Iraq, and she was “stop-lossed”. Around the same time, she and Joe got married and while at the mobilization sire, she found out she was pregnant. Talking with Captain Mizrachi, she became interested in switching to Intelligence, so she re-enlisted and put in the request… and this is the culmination.
When at any training, it is common for soldiers to be presented with various training scenarios to test their knowledge. One of the most common training scenarios is the made-up countries of “Atropia”, “Gorgas”, “Donovia”, “Ariana”, “Minaria”, and Kemalia”. Several years ago the US military came up with these fictional countries, gave them detailed backstories and histories that closely correlate with real-world events, and use these countries over and over again in all sorts of training scenarios.
But these training scenarios get old and enough veterans have joked about being “five-time veterans of the Atropian war” that even some civilians are starting to pick up on it. Don’t get the wrong idea, I have spent weeks, deeply involved in a staff-level exercise dealing with one of these scenarios and the amount of work that has gone into them is impressive. But troops are hungry for something new to shake things up.
So Juni thinks that the whole “free Sergeant Low from North Korea” was a training exercise, with role-players and actors going through the motions. She got to use her newly-forged Intel skills, even dip into her personal knowledge of Korean, and have fun “playing a new scenario” that no one else seems to know about.
Will Joe convince her of the truth, that she was involved in a diplomatic incident with North Korea? Perhaps it is better to just welcome her home and order a pizza and relax.
Until next time!"/>
