The big fueler is a HEMTT: Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck. We pronounce it “Hemmet”.
Oh, man, to be on convoy duty and have to be in the truck riding next to the tanker. It’s not like the tanker can hide, after all– that big, oblong fuel tank, sloshing around for all to see… I can only imagine what a target that must be. But I’ll be honest, if I could take one of those somewhere, park it, and shoot it with an RPG just to see what would happen… Okay, it’d definitely be one of those “Hold my beer” moments prior to waking up in the hospital, but it’d be cool to see.
Even though diesel really doesn’t explode, and just burns, I’m assuming it would “just burn” pretty darn quick.
To those guys and gals who rode fueler HEMTTs on convoys… my hat’s off to you. I used to ride security on aircraft bombs being driven out of Taji Air Force Base, but I knew it was just a brief two-month gig. Not my regular day job.
