A lot of us have favorite places we go to. It doesn’t have to be a bar, it can be a restaurant or ice cream place or whatever. For me, one of my favorite places is called the “Press & Pony”, in Boise. The chief bartender there has a handlebar mustache just like the character here and they all make some great drinks. It’s a place modeled after a 1920’s “Speakeasy” and while small, it has a great vibe. I’m recognized by sight there and always feel welcome– it is good to have a place like that to go.

Alvarez finds his way there and is welcomed. I’ve wanted to use the “Woody Allen Combo” in a comic for some time, and now that I have I hope enough people “get it” to work. Of course, Woody Allen (famous film star, producer and director) had a reputation for being an older guy who always chased after younger women. A lot of his movies took place in New York as well, which I believe was his home town. SO, a “Manhattan” chasing an 18-year-old is perfectly in that wheelhouse.

Now go out there and order a “Woody Allen Combo” and make it “a thing”!

Okay, just kidding.

Art-wise, I have discovered a way to take a photograph and alter it into a cartoon-like format. I really like it, especially because I used to spend endless hours preparing backgrounds and this technique would save me a lot of time. Of course, it looks a lot more “busy” than my usual art style, so its use and effect could be too different to get used to. Will I use this method a lot? Probably not, but sometimes when I want to make backgrounds of specific places and things I will probably incorporate it. More of these backgrounds will be available for viewing on my Patreon page, for the curious.

In other news, my art submission for a local charity benefit auction went for $45.00, and since it is related to another future project, I will feature that at the Patreon page as well.

Despite what Alvarez is going though, it is best to remember that a drink or a cigarette or whatever every so often can help ease a moment of stress or help unwind after a hard day, but if it ever becomes more than that, it might be worth looking into alternatives and call a brother or sister to help see you through. Take care and watch out for each other!
