28 MAY:
So this was the next morning after the “artillery attack”. It was humbling, but again, probably good for us at the time. The mystery of the porch lights, however, provided fodder for humor for a few days, at least.

On being an “Ace”: while being an “Ace” is an Air Force tradition, the concept is known about in the other services as well. In the Air Force, if you shoot down five enemy planes, you’re an “Ace” pilot. So every now and again someone will make a comment about how achieving five of something makes you and “Ace” at whatever it is. The Army doesn’t recognize “Ace” status for anything, but it can also be used as fodder for humor– get assigned to guard detail 5 times and you’re an Ace at guard detail, for example. Our porch-light-buster was going to be an Ace at porch lights until he got stopped. Hey, we all have our dreams– aim high, eh?
