16 FEB:
QRF: Quick Reaction Force. That’s a small team of people devoted to spending a few days ready to go in case someone needs support quickly. They hang out by their vehicles, stay fully dressed, have their helmets, weapons, and medical bags ready to go, weapons loaded, etc. During the “Fallujah” chapter, the guys called for help and the 220th Military Police Battalion showed up– now, the 220th is handing this duty off to our guys in the 213th Engineer Battalion.

Why not keep one specialized team on QRF all the time? It is kind of exhausting, being ready to go at all moments. Plus, sooner or later, some down time is needed to relax, do vehicle maintenance, and let people do other duties so they don’t develop a sense of complacency.

Unfortunately, there was a time I was on QRF and we got called to do exactly what I portray here– except it was a Major I didn’t know, who wanted to go into Baghdad to take pictures. I don’t know what his story was; I just assumed that he was getting ready to rotate home and suddenly realized he had no pictures of Baghdad or Iraq, just pictures inside Camp Victory. In other words, a dedicated Staff guy who never left the base now wants to go home and tell all his buddies about “what it’s like out there”.QRF: Quick Reaction Force.
