Mort Walker, creator of the Beetle Bailey comic strip, died in January of this year. Long ago, he made a comic that made me laugh out loud, and it was basically this comic, just with good ol’ Beetle Bailey and the Sarge. Now that I am doing a “Basic Training” arc with Trainee Nikki Donner and Drill Sergeant Low of GI Low, I decided to recreate that strip here.

One thing about Basic Training, you get tired and sleep-deprived, and you can get a little careless. I was never quite this careless, but it was probably closer than I’d like to think. The obstacle course (they called it the “Confidence Course” because it supposedly builds confidence) was kind of fun, if strenuous, and usually gave us some adrenaline. I’ll do another comic of the Confidence Course soon.
