And that’s pretty much how it went for all of us. So many people thought it would be no big deal to adjust to the Atlantic crossing; we are now in the same time zone as Stockholm, Budapest, and Tripoli.

And so people were talking about how they were going to “power through it” and just force themselves to stay up, and then by nightfall they’d be so tired they’d fall asleep instantly and within a couple days, re-set their internal clocks.

Oh, if only it were that simple.

I’ve been here over a month and I still wake up about 4 a.m. Now I can roll over and go back to sleep, but for a couple of weeks, that was it, I was done sleeping.

And then about 2 p.m. in the afternoon, I still get tired and slow down; a couple weeks earlier I had to get up and walk around or I would just start snoring in my chair. And I wasn’t alone in this as an older guy, even the 20-somethings were struggling (although they did eventually adjust quicker).

Jetlag is the one thing about travel that I hate– otherwise, I love the adventure of it all.  And in a few months, I get to do it all again in reverse.

Bon voyage!
