FOB (Forward Operating Base) Scania was a stopover base on the long road from Kuwait to Baghdad. Being a history buff, especially a history buff interested in the Middle East, I saw the parallel between FOB Scania and the old “caravanserai” way stations of old– a secure stopping point for old trade convoys of horses, wagons, and camels for long ago merchants (or war parties, which was what we were).
