The earliest Combat Engineers were specially trained Infantry and Artillery employed to besiege castles, and find ways to break into them. And of course, people with castles got Engineers of their own to counter the efforts of those trying to break in. So whether you were inside or outside the castle, trying to shore it up or destroy it, the castle figured prominently in the lives of Engineers.
Now, Combat Engineers work with mines (putting them in, taking them out), plastic explosives and demolitions, trenches, sandbags, barbed wire, tank traps, and so on. That’s the types of Combat Engineers portrayed here by the 213th Battalion in the comic.
