Sergeant-Major, we hardly know ya! Sometimes we get used to seeing our fellow Reservists in their military capacity, and we totally forget that they have other –unexpectedly ordinary– lives back home.
In truth I don’t know if a boxing match would be allowed. Tackle American-style football wasn’t allowed, and I’d heard a rumor that basketball was going to meet the same fate at one point. Various martial arts are actually a great workout but of course there’s the physical punishment that comes with it– a soldier that gets injured playing sports is a soldier that can’t perform duties, so I could see a command that would put a stop to it. That said, it is also a great way to burn off stress and can, in some circumstances, be a team-building exercise of sorts.
I never did any boxing, but I did take a couple years of Kenpo… long, long ago. I have to admit, I miss the workout it provided, and it was an hour or so out of my day that was very different from the routine.
