My wife used to go on business trips that sometimes lasted anywhere from a few days to, at least once, six weeks. I was always asked what sort of life I’d be living while she was gone– gong out, partying, doing irresponsible things?
Weird thing is, most of the time I go to bed even earlier, I will pass time cleaning random areas of the house… the most “crazy” things I do is maybe stay up too late playing a video game or something. And not even a new, fashionable, time-wasting game like the big name Multi-Player Role-Playing Games, either– a few old favorites like “Sid Meier’s Civilization V” or something like that. Just uninterrupted play at my leisure.
I’m pretty boring that way.
I guess I’ve come to enjoy the quiet, simple pleasures in life. Oddly enough, ever since my experiences in Iraq in general, and Fallujah and the Sunni Triangle in particular, I have come to embrace “boring” as a goal to achieve. A dull day is a well earned day, in my opinion.
Sometimes I think a lot of us could learn to just relax and enjoy the feeling of having nothing to do, or a bit of quiet solitude.
