Seriously, this happens every time in the chow hall.

It doesn’t matter what you ask for, or how much, but it all gets piled in one heap on one small part of the plate, leaving 75% of the “real estate” of the plate empty. Are they expecting the chow to go out and colonize it?

Our chow hall (sorry… “DFAC”, or “Dining Facility”) is typical cafeteria-style service. You get a tray and a dish and they load it up. But why everything ends up in a single pile mystifies me. Perhaps the servers are told to leave room for stuff we’ll want later on down the service line?

I wish they’d spread stuff out, and then if we insist on asking for more, then they can start piling things on top of each other. Yes, I know, technically it all ends up in the same place and there are some people love to mash all their food together, but I think they’re the minority.

In a few minutes after posting this, I am going to go stand in line for my Chow Tower– Chower?– and probably spend the first few minutes picking candied yams out of my spaghetti sauce, or something.

Bon Appetit!
