As Combat Engineers, the squad keeps a “carpentry box” among them. There is also something called a “pioneer box”. These boxes are typically large wooden crates carrying all manner of tools that a Combat Engineer might need to use to carry out a mission. As you can guess, the carpentry box will carry tools relevant to woodworking. The pioneer box will carry shovels, picks, and a heavy two-handed device called a “picket pounder” to drive metal fence posts, or “pickets”, into place.

Since their mission will be to build a sand table, the carpentry box is needed, so there’s be hammers, saws, some bags of different nails or screws, and so on. Sand tables can be handy when planning actual operations, but most of the time they end up getting used to make dioramas for the bemusement of whoever has access to them.
