“SHARP Class” is something the guys have all had to endure before; it stands for “Sexual Harassment And Rape Prevention” and it is a class that all servicemembers have to go through at least once a year.

You also know if there’s been in increase in complaints because a schedule will be cleared one day for a previously unplanned class. Or, in the case of PFC Alvarez, he got overheard talking about a female soldier’s “ribbon rack” but it got interpreted as… something else.

Interestingly enough, this actually closely mirrors an actual conversation that I had with some colleagues as we were carpooling to a remote site for Weekend Drill. We were discussing the clusters of ribbons we wear on the dress uniforms –colloquially referred to as a “rack” but also sometimes called “fruit salad” because of all the colors– when one of the junior guys happened to comment that one of our female soldiers “has a great rack”. He meant her ribbon rack (not her bustline, which is another slang use of the term) and when we all started laughing at him and telling him he was the reason we were going to spend all of Annual Training in SHARP class he realized what he said and turned beet red (thus increasing the hilarity).

Sometimes its the ones you stumble into by accident that are the best.
